L’Hermitage Goudreau Dans Le Foret Enchantee—literally “The Goudreau Hermitage in the Enchanted Forest”—is an extraordinary place nestled in the picturesque setting of Scarborough, Maine. This name perfectly captures the essence of this small, organic farm, which is truly an enclave surrounded by the quiet, beauty of the ancient forest and woods.

A Life of Contemplation and Cultivation

More than just a farm, L’Hermitage Goudreau embodies the original ideal of an Hermitage: a place where residents live and work in quiet contemplation, embracing a deeply connected agrarian lifestyle. The daily rhythm is set by the seasons and the land, fostering a spirit of peace and profound respect for nature. The central focus of life here is the dedicated work of cultivating an orchard of certified organic fruits and vegetables, a practice that keeps the residents and farmhands intimately in tune with Mother Earth.

The Bounty of the Land

The farm is dedicated to growing diverse, often historic, varieties of fruits. The orchards boast a stunning array of apples, apricots, pears, peaches, quince, plums, and cherries. Surrounding the fruit trees are vibrant gardens bursting with numerous types of flowers, including roses, peonies, dahlias, tulips, narcissi, and sunflowers. Every effort is made to grow flowers and fruit trees that actively support local pollinators, recognizing their vital role in the ecosystem. 

This ethos of dignity extends to the animals as well. L’Hermitage Goudreau raises chickens, ducks, and guinea hens on a strict no-kill basis. The focus is on humane, compassionate care, ensuring the birds are free-ranged on organic pasture and fed a soy-free diet. This commitment to their well-being results in high-quality eggs with rich, deep yellow yolks, a testament to the humane practices, dignity, and kindness with which every creature is treated.

At the heart of L’Hermitage Goudreau is our commitment to low-sugar pastries and baked goods. We ensure that the delicious, complex flavor of our certified-organic fruit—the true terroir of the season on  Goronson Farm—tells its own story. A new line of low sugar baked goods utilizing fruit from the orchards will be unveiled soon. Here the focus is on allowing the goodness and terroir of the fruit to carry the taste, unadulterated by too much sugar or other processed ingredients. Another truly magical addition are our Handcrafted Fairy Cottages, perfect table centerpieces for your holiday gatherings! Fashioned from foraged mosses and plant materials from the farm, they evoke the cozy, agrarian spirit of the Shire and Maine’s woodlands.
